[Lesson 2.3] How do I find shipments to bid on?

Learning how to find shipments on CitizenShipper is essential and can pay off big! Your success on CitizenShipper is strongly tied to understanding how to use the tools we provide to make the most of every transport. It’s not hard, it just takes time and a willingness to commit and master the various processes and techniques. In this lesson, we’ll explore a variety of ways you can find shipments on CitizenShipper:

  • Step #1: Looking for shipments on your Dashboard.
  • Step #2: Engaging with shipments from notifications.
  • Step #3: Using the Shipment Search Tool.
  • Step #4: Pro Tips (must read!)

Looking for shipments on your Dashboard

When you log in to CitizenShipper using your email and password, you will be taken to your Dashboard. There, you should see a list of shipments in the Recommended Tab - these recommendations match your chosen categories and routes

You can also click the other tabs (Active, Booked, and others) to see your active bids on shipments, the shipments you've won and delivered, or all open shipments listed on CitizenShipper.

Engaging with shipments from notifications

Having covered this in the previous lesson we are familiar with how notifications work; as a driver, you automatically receive an email or text notification each time a new shipment that matches your routes/categories is listed.

Notifications are especially important as you want to gain a competitive edge. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be among the first transporters to contact your potential customer. Customers want a transporter who is responsive and the best way to demonstrate this is by reacting to notifications on shipments that interest you as soon as you receive them.

Using the Shipment Search Tool

Based on our setting, our main listing feed funnels dozens of shipments daily to your recommended shipments tab. When you want to drill down and build routes to transport multiple items concurrently, our Shipment Search Tool helps you add efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and profitability to each trip. This manual search allows you to set different parameters to customize and build routes.

Here's how it works:

From your Dashboard on the CitizenShipper site, you should be able to see the search bar in the upper left corner of your screen. If you're on a mobile device, the search bar should appear near the top of your screen:

Simply click "Search shipments" to open the Shipment Search Tool, which allows you to set the parameters of your search by pick-up address, delivery address, date, weight , and category:

At this point, I recommend trying out the Shipment Search Tool to see what shipments are going out of your state. As you can see in the picture above - we can input the Pickup location and leave the Delivery address blank; this will let us see what shipments start in your desired pickup location and vise versa with the delivery.

Additionally, you can also use the search tool for regional searches by specifying multiple states of/and pick up and delivery you're interested in:

This tool will be especially useful when looking to create a route plan (more on this in future lessons).

Pro Tips

Each shipment listing comes with 3 important pieces of information that are relevant for your bidding decision

Preferred shipping date (OCT 2 in the example below)

How long ago the customer posted the listing (3h ago in the example below)

When was the customer last seen on the website (23m ago in the example below)

To recognize and filter the ones looking for a quote from the ones looking to book someone, keep track of when the customer was last seen on the site and make sure that this was AFTER they posted the shipment (meaning that "seen X time ago" is closer to real-time then "posted").

In the next lesson, we are going to cover how to communicate with clients, and win the shipment! Get ready!
